Blogmas Day 13: The Christmas Tag

Hello! Welcome to Blogmas Day 13!
Advent Calendar
Interesting development in today’s jigsaw puzzle – a random piece that’s identical to another piece. I’ve never had a jigsaw puzzle with spare pieces before! 🤣

The Christmas Tag
I wanted to do some kind of Christmas-related tag today, so I searched around and found this one from a blog called Modern Britches. I haven’t been tagged, and I won’t be tagging anyone else. Just felt like answering some fun Christmas questions!
1. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
We always did when I was a kid. Once we moved from England to Canada, we’d always open our gift from our English grandmother on Christmas Eve, so that when she’d call early on Christmas morning we could thank her for it. We always opened just our stockings first thing Christmas morning, and the under-the-tree presents after breakfast. These days, we open everything Christmas Day.
2. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
We had a few years where we had a fake tree and a real tree in different rooms, but these days we just use fake. Real trees became ridiculously expensive, and to be honest, I feel kind of guilty cutting down a tree just to decorate it for a few days.
3. What is your favourite holiday food or treat?
It’s not specifically holiday food, but I’m not one for eating treats at other times of the year, so I’ll say chocolate-covered almonds. Specifically organic dark chocolate, dairy-free and sugar-free. I can’t eat many at a time, but I love to savour them slowly anyway.
4. What is your favourite Christmas scent?
Cinnamon. I can never find cinnamon candles anywhere, though! So if cinnamon isn’t an option, then peppermint. Or cocoa. ‘Tis the season for lots of delicious scents, really!
5. What is your favourite Christmas film?
I posted about my favourite Christmas movies the other day, but #1 is White Christmas, hands down. It isn’t Christmas Eve without it!
6. When do you get excited for Christmas?
I’ll be real here: I haven’t really been excited for Christmas in a few years. I enjoy listening to the music, wrapping the gifts, writing the cards, watching the movies, and all of that, but “excited”? It’s been a while. Maybe this year I’ll wake up Christmas morning with that little “It’s Christmas!” thrill like I used to. Or maybe it’ll hit me while watching White Christmas on Christmas Eve.
7. Be honest. Giving gifts? Or receiving?
Giving. I don’t get as many gifts at Christmas as I give, and that’s okay. I’m a single woman giving gifts to whole families, plus I help to stuff my parents’ stockings. So I try to make the gift buying fun, and I love surprising my parents with gifts they could never predict.
8. Where do you spend Christmas?
At home with my parents. We like to have a quiet, relaxing day together.
9. What is your dream holiday vacation?
The idea of going away for the holidays is more of a nightmare to me. 🤣 Why does anybody want to go out into the holiday rush? In this part of the world, when the weather is so unpredictable?? No thanks. I’ll be at home with my feet up and a good book in my hands!
10. What’s the best part of Christmas for you?
I love the anticipation of Christmas Eve, when the last gifts have been wrapped, I’m watching White Christmas or maybe a Christmas concert on TV, I look out the window and see Christmas lights on the street, knowing that all these houses are full of families feeling that anticipation, too… it’s nice. I feel connected to millions of people all around the world.
