Update on Sumerian

As the first month of my World LiteraTour project nears its end, I have to be honest – I very quickly reached the end of my journey with learning Sumerian. There’s only so far you can go without committing to it entirely. However, I don’t consider that a fail at all, because I really enjoyed learning about this unique language that brought the world our first taste of literature! You can refer to my first post about Sumerian to see what I learned, which has definitely helped to inform my understanding of the literary works this language gave us.

Speaking of which, please come back next Friday for my analysis of The Epic of Gilgamesh! It isn’t very long, so I invite you to read it this week if you haven’t already, but I’ll try to keep my discussion interesting and informative for those who haven’t read it as well as for those who have.

If you’re interested to learn more about Sumerian yourself, Britannica has a great page on it here. Please let me know if you do dive deeper into this language, because I love that people are still learning ancient languages and keeping knowledge of them alive. Happy learning!
